Right To Information Act 2005
Right to Information Act, 2005
The Right to Information Act, 2005 (RTI Act, 2005) is a law enacted in India to promote transparency and accountability in the functioning of public authorities. Under this Act, every Indian citizen has the right to seek information available with government offices and to receive such information within the prescribed time limit.
Information such as records, orders, reports, project details, expenditure statements, and other official documents can be obtained from public authorities including Grama Panchayats, Block Panchayats, District Panchayats, Government Departments, and Public Sector Institutions.
Upon receiving an RTI application, the Public Information Officer (PIO) is generally required to provide the requested information within 30 days. If the applicant is not satisfied with the response, an appeal may be filed before the Appellate Authority.
